Perry Family – San Antonio Family Portraits

What can we say about the Perry family other than… we love them! They have been family friends of Kristi’s family for years, so I was honored when they asked me to photograph their family portraits while everyone was in San Antonio for the holidays. Here are a couple shots from their session.

Meredith at Enchanted Springs Ranch

We met Meredith at the bridal expo last August and we instantly knew we needed to photograph her.  It worked out perfectly since we were at Enchanted Springs to see if it was going to be a good place to do photo shoots.  We are glad she agreed, and have had a blast getting to know her.  We absolutely love Enchanted Springs Ranch too!

1. What brought you to Enchanted Springs Ranch? What does your job entail? (Feel free to include info on your personal business as well if you’d like.)

My husband and I moved to Boerne in June of 2010 and I really wanted to find some way to get plugged into the business community. I have my own event planning business as well, MWJ Events, and I felt like the ranch was a great way to get to know the market. Right now I work part time at Enchanted Springs Ranch overseeing all event planning and logistics as well as the marketing efforts.

2. What is your favorite part of your job(s)?

I absolutely love executing an event that provides an experience. When my clients tell me at the end of their event, that I have exceeded their expectations and they are leaving with a good feeling, it makes it all worth while.

3. What does Enchanted Springs Ranch have to offer brides and other clients?

Enchanted Springs Ranch is perfect for the bride that wants a western chic event. We can do as much or as little as they wish. Corporate clients can expect the perfect “Texas” outing for their attendees. If anyone is looking of old west or western theme, we can deliver!

4. Share a little background about you and your family.

I was born and raised in Kerrville. My wonderful Mom still lives there along with my step-dad and mother and father in-law. Jared, my husband and I were married in July of 2009. We have three awesome step-kids and a baby due this August. My family is my number one priority.

5. Tell us a few fun things about yourself! (hidden talents, interesting hobbies, quirky likes and dislikes… etc. :) )

I love to spend time at our ranch in Mt. Home, but I have never and will never “shoot” anything, I have a borderline unhealthy handbag obsession, I put mayo (real) on everything, I have the most impressively organized closet you have ever seen, I have a pink John Deere key chain on my BMW keys, and I have married the same man twice.

Please include all of your contact information that you want us to share (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, email, etc.)

30th Year Reflections

Yesterday I turned 30 and I have to say that this past week has been a major time of personal reflection for me. Almost the beginning of a mid-life crisis (even though it is a little too early for that). I know that 30 years isn’t that old, but I have been looking forward into my future and feel an impending dread and doom. I am realizing that next 20 years are going to fly by and that our lives on this earth are really just a wisp. 20 years is just 20 Christmas seasons… and then I will be 50. And even though 50 isn’t that old either, I don’t want to hit 40 or 50 and know that I had this great calling that I never acted on.

There is something big inside of me that I have been needing to get out; a contribution to the world that I know I was designed to provide. I have an internal ache and calling that has been hidden by a subtle fear of being misunderstood, rejected, and unable to provide for my beautiful wife and sons. Submitting to this fear, I have allowed a normal working adult life take over and let my passion and calling die. But I now realize that unless I start now, my potential for any type of world impact is going to diminish with every year that passes. Then, eventually, I too will become just another name on a piece of paper, unknown even by my great great grandkids, disappearing into the folds of time. To be honest I don’t know how it is all going to happen, but I am going to start taking steps. Small calculated steps, one day at a time, in hopes that this cumulation of work is going to turn into something big.

So as I have been in all of this reflection, I have made a couple 30th year resolutions that I intend to keep.

  1. I am going to finish writing my book this year. It is a book about my life stories and what the Lord has taught me through them. My hope is that God will use this book to help more people than I would ever be able to help face to face. It will be jammed packed with stuff and very entertaining… so keep your eyes peeled.
  2. I am going to lose 20-30lbs. This doesn’t mean I am going to be vain in my pursuit to look good and be more likeably hot. I admit that I have an insatiable draw to food and eating, and I want this family curse to be broken. I don’t want to sit on my butt in front of the television and watch my stomach get larger and larger, knowing that all I need to do is start moving and watch my calorie intake. So yesterday I started the first of many morning jogs in my neighborhood, listening to my ipod and plodding along while breathing like a freight train.
  3. I am going to promote my photography business more. I have been hesitant to promote it because I don’t want to look like one of those people that is always trying to sell stuff and make it big. But there is a reality, my family and I have to eat, and business has not picked up as needed… either because I am not talented enough or I haven’t promoted it enough. And since no one has told me that I am a lousy photographer yet, I have to go with promoting the business. So please don’t be offended when you start seeing stuff from Daniel Holman Studios.. I will try my best to make it interesting. Just know that I am simply trying to make a living.

The Beaugh Family

Three adorable little girls. Two amazing parents.  One beautiful house.
The Beaugh family is fabulous!  They are fun and full of life.  The girls will keep you laughing with their witty comments and adorable expressions.  They were so fun to photograph!  The Beaugh’s recently moved into a new home that is full of character and charm.  It was the perfect backdrop!  We love to create photographs that capture a bit of the family’s history.  Perhaps years from now the girls will look back at the photographs and say “I remember that house!  Remember when we…?”
Oh… and we had the pleasure of creating a custom Christmas card for them!

Here are a few of our favorite photos of this wonderful family:

Katie Farrin – New Braunfels & San Antonio Videographer

What can we say about Katie other than… We love her! She is not only a great videographer, but a amazing person and probably one of the sweetest people we have met here in San Antonio. This is why we have picked her to be one of our Preferred Professionals!

We were able to ask her some questions and this is what she said:

  1. Can you give us a little background on yourself and your family?
My husband, Rusty, and I just moved to Texas this past year. We’re both originally from Arkansas and met my last month of college. I had plans to move away, but decided to stick around after meeting such a wonderful guy! We recently celebrated our 1 year anniversary! Our puppy, Jane, is our baby.
  2.  How did you get started in wedding videography?
After graduating with a degree in broadcast journalism, I got a job producing morning news and creating websites. I found news to be depressing and realized that I would absolutely love being a wedding videographer. I have felt so fortunate to be able to be a part of so many couples exciting day!
  3. What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is knowing that I am creating something that the couple can watch for a lifetime!  They can relive all the special moments of their wedding day and share them with family, friends and future generations.
  4. What do you hope to offer brides?
I try to showcase the love of each couple in a unique, fresh and sweet way. I want to make sure each couple is happy throughout the whole experience.
  5. One fun thing about yourself!
I love to write! I write all the time on my blog. I aspire to one day write a book– a sweet love story.
  6. How can we get ahold of you?

Business cards for Dr. Young

I have been working closely with Dr. Young, a San Antonio Periodontist, for almost a year now and the time finally came to re-vamp his business cards.  He really wanted to start connecting with people on Facebook & Twitter so we decided to go against the norm and actually put his social links on the front of his business card.  We also implemented a QR code, which will take people straight to his website. **Try it from your smartphone right from the computer screen.**  The map on the back of the card is to help patients find him easier. He is pleased with them, and the QR code is a great conversational piece.

Chris & Julianna

I have really enjoyed working with Chris & Julianna these past couple weeks.  The first engagement photoshoot didn’t really go as expected because Chris’ car got a flat tire on the way to the location.  So I ended up finding them on the highway, helped Chris’s dad change the tire, followed them to the tire place on their little spare, and got the tire replaced.  This was pretty much the entire time we had set aside for the photoshoot and the sun was on the horizon by the time we were done.  Looking across the parking lot I saw a open lot, so that it where we took our shots.  They turned out pretty good.

Although it probably wasn’t fun for them, I kinda enjoyed it.  There is nothing like changing a tire on the highway, with cars driving past within 2 feet of  your head because they won’t scoot over a lane to pass you.  Gets the blood pumping.  :-)
