Our Stories

How Dan and Kristi Met (from Kristi’s perspective)

I noticed Dan our Junior year and thought he was handsome, but we went to a huge high school and so I didn’t think I would ever actually meet him.  Our senior year, we were in the same choir but didn’t know each other.  One day, I went out to my car and found that it wouldn’t start.  I was a new driver so all I thought to do was call my Dad.  I had a book I had to read for my English class, so I decided to sit in the lobby of the school (on the floor because there were no chairs) and read it while I waited.  I know… a very nerdy thing to do… but I didn’t care. :)  Dan was waiting for a ride as well and saw me sitting there.  After passing by several times, he got up the nerve to say “hey… can I sit down?”.  I said “sure”.  And the rest is history.  :)

The Photography at Our Wedding

Rewind to December 14, 2002 and you would find us full of excitement about to get married!  We’d picked the flowers, the dresses, the cakes… and of course, the photographer.  We’d soon come to find out our choice of photographer would have the biggest impact on our day.  We picked someone very experienced with nice images and thought that was all we needed to think about.  We had signed a contract with our photographer that other people would not be allowed to photograph our wedding.  We  assumed this meant while they were photographing, but it actually meant at all!  Needless to say, our families were upset!  Our grandparents were fuming as the photographer’s wife went to each of them and sharply told them they needed to put their cameras away because they were not allowed to take any pictures.  Kristi’s Mom pulled the photographer’s wife aside and said, “I will not take pictures that you have posed, but I will take pictures at my daughters wedding!”  If you know Kristi’s Mom, you k now this is completely out of character.

The ceremony was full of laughter and tears.  We still chuckle about the details and the mishaps.  It fit us well.  After the ceremony, our photographers reminded us that we had only hired them for x amount of hours.  They said in order to get the pictures we would want later we should go ahead and cut the cake, do our first dance, and stage a fake ending so they could leave.  So we went ahead and complied.  When these things were done, we looked around and realized all of our guests were leaving– many of who we’d barely had a chance to say “hi” to!

We still got married that day and still have tons of memories to reminisce about, but when we started photographing other people’s weddings we new exactly what not to do.  We know first hand how much the photographer can impact a wedding and we make it our goal to capture the real story of a couples’ big day!
